Magnets are VERY strong- not only do they look nice, but they hold up paper too because they have Neodymium magnets on the back! Each magnet is 7/8 inch in tall. The glass is also very thick (5mm).

One of the first of it's kind (as far as my making them is concerned) and the one that made me realize that I really loved making these things! A blue stained wooden box containing a very serene Virgin Mary who was formerly a night-light. The base and halo made from a cream colored sugar bowl and its lid covered in tiny gilt stars. An ornately framed mirror flanked with a split milkweed pod top this found object sculpture.

My entry for Etsy.com's Upcycling contest, which won 3rd place out of over 1000 entries. Etsy bought the outfit and it now resides at the Etsy Labs in Brooklyn

Skirt, bustier, and flower choker made from recycled FEMA-issue blue tarp which was found discarded on the streets of New Orleans last spring.

I was inspired to recreate something similar to what I made last year for a charity auction here in New Orleans that benefited the America's Wetlands organization.

The charity auction was a fashion show...the only rule was that all of the outfits had to be created using blue tarp as the primary material. The outfit I made for the auction ended up making the front page of the Living section in the local paper that week.

The story in the newspaper prompted a request from two friends for me to make a couple of simple dresses out of blue tarp for them to wear on Mardi Gras day. One of the friends had found a big pile of discarded FEMA-issue blue tarp on the side of the road. I made them two dresses and two small purses out of the blue tarp she brought me, and I still had a ton of it left over. I've been holding on to the leftovers ever since, trying to find things to make out of it.

The entire outfit is made out of blue tarp and also features red zig-zag contrast stitching, red functional buttons, lace-up ribbon closure on bustier, and a blue tarp fleur-de-lis applique.

Indiscretion DIY Mini Skirt Urban Fairy Kera Glam sz 4 by Indiscretion

Reconstructed (washed) Old Navy miniskirt made of a distressed cotton and distressed velvet (velvet is on some edges and as a stripe on each side of skirt).

I dyed the velvet blue, added sequins to the waist area (sewed on and reinforced with a little permanent fabric glue), stenciled Asian symbols of Energy and Peace on the front pockets, and stylized bamboo trees to the hem.

I used a dark blue permanent fabric marker to color around and over parts of the velvet, for a dimensional look. I added two layers of pleated and gathered tulle in shimmery pink and turquoise sewn to the skirt with a silver metallic ribbon.

I added a red velvety ribbon to the hem (there is a little red bow in back) and some soft white lace to the inside of the hem. To top it off, I sprayed the whole thing with permanent fabric glitter in silver, looks like fairy dust!

DIY Reconstructed Tattoo Dress Skull Roses Hearts Lavender S-M by Indiscretion

Great punky dress for spring! Brand new tank top printed with a cameo, skull, crowns, hearts, etc - tattoo type designs, on a light purple cotton rib reconstructed into a fab drop waist dress.

I added felt hearts to the front and back, ruffled gingham elastic to the back neck seam, and a felt hot pink cheeta print skull and crossbones to the back. I also added special permanent silver glitter paint around the cameo in front for extra sparkle. I embroidered the bottom of the tank with a fuzzy angora-like acrylic yarn, and also added a couple layers of lace above the two layer skirt.

The skirt is assymetrical and consists of two layers of printed mesh, one with blue and purple hues (with flowers and butterflies) and underneath, a retro print with flowers and abstract shapes in black, orange, pink and yellow.

Precious Time- green and gold necklace by rosella

A very old and worn watch face is the focal point of this necklace. The numbers are worn from years of loving wear. The chain is made of parts of two vintage gold tone chains. Five drops of green glass beads dangle and delight to capture the eye. Sometimes hiding behind the watch face. A second set of green dangles hangs from the dividing point of the two styles of chain, approximately 5” (12.7cm) above the watch face. The overall length of the mismatched chains is 16”. I can easily make this necklace longer or shorter if desired by adding a piece of vintage chain. Reconstructed Tuxedo Corset Laced Halter with Ruffles by Indiscretion

My inspiration for this top was a black lacy collar and button placket I cut from a Charlotte Russe top and the infamous dinner scene from Flashdance. The placket had five buttons, I left two of the original black buttons and replaced the other three with Austrian crystal buttons by JHB (no cheap buttons here!). The front of the halter is made with a blue ruffled spandex, and the back has a stretchy grey knit shot with silver threads.

Rockabilly Punk Reconstructed Dress Blondie w/Camo Skirt by Indiscretion

Licensed Blondie shirt turned into super comfortable awesomeness! I cut off the sleeves and collar, and gave them lettuce edging. I added adjustable acid lime green adjustable lingerie straps (1/4") at the shoulders. I made belt loops and made a belt (matches the lingerie straps!) with a big ole' round blue sparkly buckle. I added a skirt made of cotton turquoise camo, and used permanent fabric paint to stamp and paint skulls on it. Blondie's face looks like a skull in the print on the shirt, and was my inspiration for putting skulls on the skirt. I also painted Blondie's face silver to emphasize this design (see photo). Would look great with a petticoat! Dress is pinned back on model.

What's better than an unusual "flower" that blooms all year, never needs water, and never wilts? China Blossoms are glass flowers for your yard or garden, constructed from orphaned saucers, bowls, small platters, votive holders, little class lids--whatever looks "right". Each blossom has a 36" steel stem, which slips into a copper and steel holder on the back of the flower. This large poinsettia is approximately 8 inches in diameter.

A raspberry trumpet rises from frosted petals on etched crystal, measuring roughly 5" high, on a 8" diameter plate. A 36" steel stake lets you "plant" it anywhere. China Blossoms are created from orphaned saucers, plates, light globes, votives--any flower-like piece qualifies. The back assembly is braised copper tubing on a galvanized disk.

"Inside every coffee pot is some poor soul standing on its head." Prudence, (or Prue, as her friends all call her) is in love with her job. She works as a hostess at the most popular nightclub in town, and gets to hear all the newest all-the-rage bands for free gratis, and on top of that gets to dress up every night and go out on the town. Her feet get tired, but when that happens she corrals a lonesome customer and gets him to dance with her. That always puts new spring in her feet. Did I say a lonesome customer? Not always. She's been known to approach a couple and offer the lady a dollar to let her dance with her honey. Prue does it with aplomb, sometimes claiming it's part of her job to mingle, and she's almost never turned down. In fact, sometimes she dances with the lady, too. It's all good, every bit of it. Prudence stands about two feet high, and will grace any garden, yard, or garden party. She's a born flirt though, so do be careful. She is constructed entirely of found/recycled materials, with hand-painted facial features, and comes with a laminated bio card.

I made these from one of my books from my undergraduate conducting course, "The Art of Conducting". My husband had taken the course as well, so we had two of the same book. Instead of giving this beauty to Goodwill, I decided to make envelopes! Shirt I had started creating at my last craft party - it has scissors, spiderwebs, skulls and corsets stamped on it, as well as a glitter lightning bolt, bows, and laces up the back with silvery grommets and black ribbon. I host a craft party every three months, and I wanted to show the participants what you could do with a plain brand new cotton tee. I was actually making it for my favorite punk rocker model (in-progress photo on flickr), Zaidee. She finally got the shirt (thanks, usps) and sent me a photo of her wearing it - she rocks!

You send a girl in Peru for one month and she comes back with the most amazing and brightest colors in her eyes. This little bag is inspired by my trip to Peru, it is made with a cotton vintage napkin and lined with a bright pink cotton. One handle of the bag is embroidered with two little houses. The applique on the front is slightly puffy which gives it a nice relief. There is also an inside zippered pocket, reinforced with strong interface. The crocheted mushroom on a keyfob that comes with the bag is made out of a yarn I found in a little market in the Cordilliera Blanca. We were the only gringos on that market and it was wonderful! A 5 1/2" X 3 1/2" Needlebook crocheted with a 75% recycled cotton/25% acrylic yarn. Natural linen colored. Lined with felt. Pretty pearized buttons inside to keep your sissors in place and a star button in the middle of the flower on the front. Smaller embroidery scissors would fit best but the ones showing were the smallest I had to show. Three felt flaps to hold your pins and needles. Scissors, pins and needles do not come with the needlebook.

This card is only 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" and just so sweet and simple. The base of it is a handmade paper. The deckle edged paper that frames the flower is 100% recycled paper and edges inked with Versa Magic chalk ink. The flower is hand crocheted by me from a cotton/linen blend yarn. The grey button has what I think you'd call a slightly opaque quality to it. I made the envelope out of recycled brown kraft paper. This would be so lovely to add to any gift.

*No longer for sale for I'm keeping it for myself.:)~~~~~~~~ I created a knotted 18 1/2" long caramel colored seam binding necklace featuring an antique copper colored square picture frame pendant with part of an illustration from an old fallen apart Little House on the Prairie book inside the frame.~~~~I put Aneene's paper glaze on the front and back of the illustration. There is also a plastic piece covering the front of the picture and a cardboard piece in the back covered with a pigment ink that is archival and acid free and then a coat of Aleene's Paper Glaze for added protection. For the clasp in the back I used a small antique copper colored acorn charm and a loop in the seam binding. It is just so delicate and earthy.~~~~~~~I was sort of hesitant on selling it but thought i'd price it a bit higher than I normally would to bide me some time to think on it. May lower it in the future although I think it worth every bit that I price it at now.;)!UPDATE!Lowered the price.:) ~~~~Would look great paired with either the pinecone or acorn earrings I have up for sale as well.:)

Crocheted Artist Pen Holder by salken

This is a pen holder I crocheted with Red Heart yarn in an eco-cotton blend of 75% recycled cotton and 25% acrylic in a moss green color.~~~ This is one of my favorite yarns.~~~ Then I placed a pretty yellow lining inside with 8 pockets made from a vintage material.~~~ The flower is also made from the same material plus another red vintage material.~~~This is a sturdy little case and can be machine washed and dried.~~~I can make more of these if anybody is interested. Will sell them for $15.00 plus $2.00 for shipping.

ATC featuring map of Japan for Julie Wong by salken

Here it is Julie! Hope you like it.:)~~~~~~~This ATC was done on a handmade paper. Then on top of that I used a 100% recycled paper that I edged with some chalk ink.~~~~~ I then drew out the map with a pencil, drew over the pencil lines with a sepia colored india ink, filled in the map with a green watercolor pencil. ~~~~~Drew the symbol from Japan's flag behind the map. Filled that in with a red watercolor pencil but then decided it needed to be darker and used a red marker. ~~~~~I put Aleene's Paper Glaze just within the lines of the map for dimension. ~~~~~I went online to find the Japanese symbol for 'Julie' and 'Japan' and then drew them on the ATC. ~~~~~Edged the whole card in the glaze as well to sturdy up the handmade paper.~~~~~~~~~~~ I think that this may be the best ATC i've done yet. I have to say that I was quite pleased with the outcome. Thankyou Julie for asking me to do this because it helped me as an artist to push myself to do something that I hadn't done before.:)

A Crocheted Crochet Hook Case Roll by salken

UPDATE-I have decided to keep this for myself for my own crochet hooks. I can make more though for anyone interested.:)~~~~~~~ I love this. It is a crochet hook case roll. The outside of it I crocheted using Red Heart Eco-Cotton Blend yarn that is 75%recycled cotton and 25% acrylic. Has a very nice feel to it. The inside has sewn in it a pretty vintage material that has eight pockets for your crochet needles.It even has a flap to ensure that your needles do not fall out when it is closed. You can actually put more needles in by doubling or even tripling up on the small sized ones. That's what I do. Approximately 6 inches tall this little guy is hand crocheted with a 75% recycled cotton and 25% acrylic yarn in moss, almond and white.~~~ It is crocheted tightly so it has a really nice feel to it.~~~ He sits without falling over.~~~Has a little black cloth covered shank button nose and a crinkly dark chocolate brown sash or scarf around his neck.~~~ He can be washed normally in a load of laundry with like colors and will come out just fine. Maybe even better because this yarn really softens up with each wash.:)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~If anyone would like one of these guys in this size or larger I can do custom orders. I would charge $13.00 for the little one and 16.00 for a large(about 3 times bigger than little one). With shipping and handling too of course which would only be $2.00 for little one and $2.50 for large.
